UCLA's Henry Samueli School of Engineering and
Applied Science has greatly contributed to the nation's
pursuit of knowledge of technology since it was
established as the UCLA College of Engineering. Broadcom
maintains a close research relationship with the school
and funds several research projects with faculty and
graduate students through the UC MICRO Program.
The University Recruiting Program at Broadcom is
actively involved with several student associations and
organizations on campus that focus on engineering,
technology, and diversity. Broadcom is also a Corporate
Partner with the UCLA Career Services Center and a
member of the Industrial Affiliates Program.
Why does Broadcom choose to recruit
engineering and computer science graduates from
UCLA?
UCLA has one of the top engineering schools in the
country, with talented graduates at all levels (B.S.,
M.S., and Ph.D.). The university's proximity to Broadcom
is also an advantage for our internship and full-time
programs, since there are fewer relocation issues.
What do you see as the strengths of UCLA's
engineering and computer science graduates?
UCLA engineering school graduates are very bright and
are well trained in the fundamentals. The graduate
program in integrated circuit design is as good as any
in the country.
How do UCLA alumni compare to your other
employees?
Some of the very best engineers at Broadcom are UCLA
alumni. UCLA ranks number one in terms of number of
university alumni employed by Broadcom.
Several UCLA engineering graduates are in leadership
positions at Broadcom.
What qualities do they share that make them
suited for such roles?
First and foremost, they are brilliant engineers.
However, they have also demonstrated very strong
leadership skills, which have allowed them to quickly
move up the ranks into management positions. We have
approximately 10-12 UCLA engineering alumni in
leadership roles at Broadcom Corporation.
How many graduates from UCLA's Henry Samueli
School of Engineering and Applied Science currently work
at Broadcom?
We have approximately 175 UCLA engineering graduates
currently working at Broadcom. We have hired 11 interns
and 12 full-time candidates from UCLA in the last year
alone.
