IRVINE, Calif., Nov 4, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications, today announced that the Broadcom® BCM6335 asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) customer premises equipment (CPE) chip is shipping in volume to customers in Asia. The BCM6335 specifically targets the China ADSL CPE market which, according to Point-Topic founder and publisher, Tim Johnson, is expected to be in excess of 6.8 million lines installed and well over 6 million subscribers by the end of 2003, an 84.7% increase over 2002.
"The explosive growth of the ADSL market in China is driving the need for CPE solutions tailored to that market," said John O'Neill, Broadcom's Director of DSL Marketing. "We developed the BCM6335 and software to exceed China's MII and CCC regulatory requirements, while providing a significant cost reduction for the total solution."
The BCM6335 and its predecessor, the BCM6345, comprise a family of ADSL CPE chips that enables Broadcom's customers to cost effectively address the CPE router and gateway markets with compatible software, hardware and supporting reference designs. These products are complemented by Broadcom's industry-leading devices for Ethernet switching, 54g™ 802.11, Bluetooth™ and Voice over IP (VoIP) applications.
"Broadcom's BCM6335 is an ideal solution to support the rapid increase of ADSL deployments in China," commented Tang FuNan, President of T&W. "We are particularly excited about the BCM6335, as it performs very well and lets us design CPE solutions that are very inexpensive to produce, making it the perfect choice for our customers today."
"TCL entered the ADSL CPE market by partnering with Broadcom on the BCM6345," said Gu Gong, President of TCL. "The BCM6335 allows us to make our product more price competitive, while leveraging the software we've already developed for our customers on the BCM6345. Broadcom's DSL CPE products and support have helped to securely position our company to be a leading supplier of DSL equipment in China."
Complemented by a complete royalty-free networking and application stack, documentation and design package, the BCM6335 chip and BCM96335R reference design enable customers to rapidly develop and deliver complete solutions supporting ADSL Annex A, B, and C as well as ADSL2 Annex A, B, J, K and L with unmatched performance and interoperability.
The BCM6335 is now available in production quantities and is priced under $10.00 each. The chip is packaged in a 352-pin PBGA.
