IRVINE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., Mar 15, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions enabling broadband communications, today announced that Bell Microproducts (Nasdaq: BELM), one of the world's largest storage-centric, value-added distributors has signed an agreement to distribute Broadcom® RAIDCore™ serial ATA RAID controllers internationally. The RAID controllers employ Broadcom's proprietary Fulcrum™ architecture software that is designed to bring the data integrity and high-performance of enterprise-class RAID solutions to small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs) without the associated complexity and cost. The distribution agreement allows Bell Microproducts to distribute Broadcom's RAIDCore RC4000 SATA RAID controllers to resellers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe.
The RAIDCore RC4000 products enable businesses to expand or upgrade their storage using low-cost, high-capacity SATA drives without interrupting operations. These products support all popular RAID levels, online capacity expansion, online RAID-level migration and controller spanning, and provide the ability to create arrays that span multiple controllers without having to bring the system down. The RC4000 family features up to 4-zettabyte storage capacity, enhanced security and disaster recovery through N-way mirroring and distributed sparing capabilities. This agreement to distribute Broadcom RAID solutions is the result of the demand that such RAID features have generated from Bell Microproducts' storage integrator and VAR customers.
"Bell Microproducts is one of the most respected distributors of storage solutions and understands that the storage needs of small-to-medium sized businesses today are escalating and require cost-effective solutions," said Tom Marmen, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Storage Line of Business. "With our leadership in RAID performance and product features, coupled with our aggressive pricing structure, we believe that our RAID solutions are ideal for a leading distributor like Bell Microproducts."
"By the end of the first month following the launch of RAIDCore controllers, requests for these products were significant, and the move to bring enterprise-level data integrity and performance to SMBs became a prime objective of Bell Microproducts," said Jerry Kagele, Executive Vice President, Commercial Products Sales and Marketing of Bell Microproducts. "As we continue to see growth in the SMB market, partly fueled by more and more storage hungry applications, the potential for Broadcom's RAIDCore solutions is easy to see and we are very excited to be partnering with them."
