Broadcom® Bluetooth® Silicon and Software Extend Advanced Functionality Into Motorola's Windows®-Based Mobile 'Q' Handset

Industry's Most Extensive Smartphone Functionality, Enabled by Broadcom, Moves Mobile Handsets to the Center of the Personal Area Network

IRVINE, Calif., June 26, 2006 -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its Broadcom® Bluetooth® silicon and software for advanced wireless functionality is now integrated in Motorola's innovative new Moto Q Smartphone. The Moto Q is the first major handset to ship with the smartphone edition of Broadcom's Widcomm® software, and for the first time, provides Windows-based mobile smartphone devices with industry leading Bluetooth functionality that was only previously available in desktop and notebook computers. Supporting the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, Broadcom's Bluetooth software and chip solutions enable the mobile handset to replace the PC as the center of a fully featured wireless personal area network (PAN).

Device manufacturers continue to adopt Bluetooth as a key technology to connect electronic devices for personal wireless applications such as audio and video streaming, file transfer, synchronization, connection with wireless peripherals and remote control, among others. As smartphone handsets add increasingly advanced functions, Bluetooth is expected to play a more central role in the way users interface with these devices. Broadcom software is the most widely deployed Bluetooth software in products based on Microsoft Windows, and the new smartphone software platform extends that leadership into the mobile arena. Broadcom's new software provides the richest portfolio of Bluetooth capabilities available for smartphone products, including unprecedented support for multimedia and PC remote control capabilities.

"Motorola's new Q phone offers the most advanced functionality available on a Microsoft-based smartphone which, combined with a cutting-edge design, makes it one of the most unique phones on the market," said Scott Bibaud, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Wireless Personal Area Networking Line of Business. "This is only the beginning as our partners continue to launch new products that take full advantage of our advanced Bluetooth software, providing features and functionality that no other Bluetooth provider can match."

Broadcom has integrated key Bluetooth chip and software technology in the new Moto Q phone handset that enables several new features to significantly increase the PC capabilities of the smartphone. For example, a user can wirelessly connect the Q phone to a PC and remotely control a PowerPoint presentation or use the phone as a peripheral input device. The phone can also be used to stream stereo music to wireless headsets, or to control Audio/Video (A/V) functions on a PC from across the room. Broadcom's smartphone software stack provides support for the widest range of Bluetooth software "profiles" (applications) among available products, including the Bluetooth imaging profile (BIP) for advanced printing and personal area networking.

Broadcom Bluetooth Technology Leadership

Broadcom's Bluetooth software for Windows is the most widely deployed Windows-compatible Bluetooth software in the industry, with OEM leaders such as Acer, HP and Lenovo offering it on their PC and notebook platforms. With variants for PDAs, cell phones and now smartphones, Broadcom software continues to gain momentum in a broad range of products. The impressive installed based of devices enabled by Broadcom provides manufacturers with confidence that their development efforts will enjoy greater levels of functionality and interoperability with Windows PCs, notebook and handheld computers equipped with Bluetooth technology.

Broadcom remains committed to providing the most complete suite of Bluetooth software available, maintaining a robust and up-to-date core stack while also delivering the broadest range of profiles available, ensuring a level of stability and upgradeability that competing solutions find difficult to match. The core software stack can be found on a diverse assortment of platforms, from mobile phones to PCs to printers and cable set-top box devices, as well as other unique devices. Broadcom's continued software and silicon innovation enable unique capabilities in a greater variety of devices, allowing consumers to take advantage of advanced features ahead of other Bluetooth technology providers.
