BCM3378

QAMLINK® DOCSIS®/EURODOCSIS™ 2.0 Voice Cable Modem SoC

Broadcom's BCM3378 Voice cable modem solution supports basic embedded multimedia terminal adapters (eMTAs) and integrates a tuner, QAM demodulator, DOCSIS 2.0 media access controller (MAC), a 300 MHz CPU with digital signal processing (DSP) commands and an analog voice interface. Delivering high levels of integration and performance for demanding Voice over Cable applications, Broadcom's BCM3378 incorporates Broadcom's advanced 850 DMIPS VIPER™ (Voice over IP Enhanced RISC) processor core and integrated receiver.

As Broadcom's fourth-generation VoIP cable modem device, implemented in 65-nm CMOS, the BCM3378 is based on the ninth-generation DOCSIS® cable modem technology and revolutionary VIPER technology that eliminates the need for a separate DSP for VoIP applications.

  • 850 DMIPS VoIP Enhanced RISC (VIPER) processor
  • 320-MHz MIPS core with Memory Management Unit (MMU)
  • VoIP acceleration and integrated voice codec and interface to lowest cost dual SLIC device
  • Reduced power consumption for lowest cost battery requirements and advanced battery management controller
  • Simplified BOM with lowest overall system cost for DOCSIS 2.0
