Mobile Power Management Unit
The BCM59040 Power Management Unit (PMU) is a highly integrated power management and battery management solution optimized for portable navigation devices, personal media players, portable Internet devices, smartphones, handheld game consoles, and other handheld applications.
The BCM59040 contains a Charge-and-Play (CNP) wall and USB charger for Li-ion/Li-polymer batteries, USB-OTG VBUS control and monitoring complemented with an external VBUS boost regulator, two high-efficiency synchronous buck regulators, six high-performance LDOs, a backup battery charger, an RTC, three programmable current sources for driving signal LEDs, five GPIO ports, a multiport 10-bit housekeeping ADC, and a fuel gauge. The BCM59040 can be controlled through a 3.4 MHz, I²C-compatible, Broadcom Serial Control (BSC) interface. An external host controller can access BSC registers to read or program the internal blocks.
