Power over Ethernet Solutions

Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a LAN technology that provides DC power over twisted pair Ethernet cables to powered devices (PDs) within enterprise, SMB or home networks. Originally developed to power IP telephones, the approved IEEE 802.3af standard enables scalable and manageable delivery of 15 watts to Voice over IP (VoIP) and wireless access points in locations where AC power outlets are absent or inconvenient.

The IEEE 802.3at Task Force is developing specifications for increased wattage (over the 802.3af standard), while pre-IEEE802.3at solutions are now powering new generations of networked-attached devices, such as video phones, surveillance cameras, residential gateways/routers, retail point-of-sale readers and security card scanners, that require higher power to operate.
