Octal-Port QSGMII to 10/100/1000BASE-T or Fiber Transceiver with EEE Support
The BCM54682E transceiver can support either QSGMII to eight copper (10/100/1000BASE-T) ports or two Fiber (100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-X, or SGMII-Slave) interfaces. When in QSGMII to Copper mode the PHY performs all of the physical layer (PHY) functions for 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T on standard Category 5 UTP cable. When in QSGMII to Fiber mode the PHY performs all of the physical layer (PHY) functions for 100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-X and SGMII-Slave. The BCM54682E is designed to comply with the QSGMII industry standard.
The BCM54682E is based on the proven digital-signal processor technology of Broadcom, combining digital adaptive equalizers, ADCs, phase locked loops, line drivers, encoders, decoders, echo cancellers, crosstalk cancellers, and all other required support circuitry integrated into a single monolithic CMOS chip. With full compliance to IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standard, the BCM54682E substantially lower power consumption during periods of low-link utilization. In addition, with Broadcom's AutogrEEEn™ technology, the BCM54682E can be in EEE mode when interfacing with non-EEE enabled MAC switches, allowing system designers to take advantage of EEE technology and realize power savings today. This power savings translates to lower energy costs for organizations that deploy networking equipment using the BCM54682E with EEE and AutogrEEEn technology. For application that require precise and accurate synchronization of nodes in the network, the BCM54682E includes support for 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and is fully compliant to IEEE 1588-2008(version 2) standard.
