BCM7042

MPEG-2 Digital Video/Audio Encoder

The BCM7042 is a highly integrated, single-chip, NTSC/PAL MPEG-2 encoder. Integrated features in the BCM7042 include an MPEG-2 single-channel video encoder, a high-fidelity MPEG-1 layer II/Dolby Digital AC-3 stereo audio encoder, adaptable system multiplexer capable of generating MPEG-1 system streams, and MPEG-2 program and transport streams. In addition, the BCM7042 integrates video pre-processing modules, an I²C controller, PCI/EBI bus interfaces, I²S audio input and CCIR-656 video input interfaces, and a dedicated compressed data/DVB output interface.

Digital CCIR-656 video is delivered to the BCM7042 video input buffer and pre-processor module. The digital video is optionally scaled from Full D1 to lower resolutions and passed to the video encoder.

  • MP@ML MPEG-2 horizontal variable resolutions include 720, 704, 640, 544, 480, 352, 320, or any other user-defined and vertical variable resolutions of 480, 240, (NTSC); 576, 288 (PAL), or any other user-defined
  • Variable frame rate, up to 30 (NTSC)/25 (PAL) fps
