IP Security. A framework of open standards developed by the IETF that provides data confidentiality, data integrity, data privacy, tunneling methods, key management, and data authentication between participating peers. IPSec provides these security services at the IP layer. Widely deployed to implement Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
