The Altera® Optical FPGA takes the concept of embedded parallel optics and takes it to the next level of integration. By creating an Optical FPGA, Altera and Avago have made it possible for FPGA users to realize the advantages of parallel optical interfaces without becoming experts in optical design. Users will then realize the tremendous increase in link distance, performance and bandwidth possible when using fiber optics instead of copper for high-speed communications.
- Technology demonstration with Altera Stratix® IV GT FPGA plus 2 MicroPOD™ optical modules from Avago Technologies
- 10G FPGA transceivers connected to 12 x 10G MicroPOD™ optical transmitters and receivers
- Up to 120 Gbps aggregate optical bandwidth plus 160 Gbps aggregate electrical bandwidth Ideal for high performance computing, server clusters, and optical backplanes
- Integrated solution can replace copper interconnects or multiple edge-mount
