Designed to optimize 5G WiFi, the IEEE 802.11ac standard, the ARM®-based StrataGX™ BCM58522 Series combines up to 10 times more processing power with advanced architectural features to enable a secure, application-aware unified wired and wireless enterprise network.
The increase in the number of connected devices to the cloud leads to an increased need for efficient enterprise and small-to-medium business (SMB) networks to incorporate various features to protect the enterprise from malware and theft. Networked Attached Storage (NAS) devices that support personal cloud services such as remote access of files or media content require these devices to support storage as well as high-speed 5G WiFi access. At the center of each of the devices is a high-performance 1.2GHz ARM® Cortex-A9™ dual-core processor. The StrataGX™ BCM5862x series includes:
  • Up to 1.2GHz single- and dual-core Cortex-A9 CPUs with 32KB of instruction and data cache each, 512KB of L2 cache with ECC support, integrated switch and GPHYs, as well as high speed I/O and memory interfaces
  • All the products in the BCM5862x series include a programmable packet accelerator that is used to offload the main CPU cores. This accelerator consists of a third ARM core, the Cortex-R5™, with its own local memory and can be used for RAID/XOR acceleration, CAPWAP/DTLS and other network protocols
  • The StrataGX BCM58622 and BCM58623 support 16-bit wide memory interfaces up to DDR3-1600, while the BCM58625 supports 32-bit wide memory interface up to DDR3-1600
  • There is a cryptographic accelerator that supports line rate speeds and supports various encryption and hashing algorithms
  • The BCM58623 and BCM58625 both support two SATA3.0 interfaces with bandwidths of up to 6Gb/s
  • Power management allows control of various blocks to go “green”
  • Linux® Development Kit (LDK), reference designs and standard open-source software tools reduce engineering development and time-to-market
  • Complete reference design including schematics, tools and software to enable faster time to market
