The XLP® Processor is a third-generation architectural enhancement to Broadcom's industry-leading Multi-Core, Multi-Threaded XLR® Processor family. The XLP® 300 Series Processors are fabricated using 40 nm technology and offer processor core frequencies from 500 MHz to greater than 1.5GHz, providing a 3x performance-per-watt improvement over their XLR predecessor. The processor can also be ordered as XLP3xxLite for a 31mm x 31mm package. The XLP300 Series is software backward-compatible with the XLR and XLS® Processor families. The XLP300 Series includes:
XLP316 with 16 virtual CPUs
XLP316L with 16 virtual CPUs and includes PCIe® 1 x 4
XLP316S with 16 virtual CPUs and includes PCIe 2 x 8, 4 x 4
XLP316T with 16 virtual CPUs and includes PCIe 2 x 8, 4 x 4 and SATA
XLP308 with 8 virtual CPUs
XLP304 with 4 virtual CPUs


  • With up to four EC4400 Processor Cores that power the XLP300 Series, the processors provide optimum performance for both data plane and control plane applications. The EC4400 core architecture maintains the multithreading capability field-proven to provide the highest possible performance for throughput-oriented data plane processing
  • The XLP300 Series Processors contain a MOESI+ coherent, three-level cache architecture. Each of the EC4400 cores contains a dedicated 64-KByte instruction cache, a 32-KByte L1 data cache and a 512-KByte 8-way set-associative L2 cache
  • The XLP300 Series Processors contain a high-performance memory subsystem with up to four on-chip 72-bit DDR3 memory controllers with 51.2 GBps (Gigabytes per second) of bandwidth
  • A low-latency, high-speed Fast Messaging Network (FMN) allows for non-intrusive communication and control messaging among VirtuCores, acceleration engines, and I/O
