Broadcom offers both analog and digital proximity sensors to detect the presence or absence of an object by detecting and measuring the reflected infrared energy. The sensors compensate for ambient light interference to allow for accurate measurements from bright sunlight to a dark room. Broadcom proximity sensors are used to disable the touch screens on smart phones and digital cameras or for replacing mechanical switches.
